A Cross Country Road Trip Is Good For Your Spirit

By Randy Q. Logan

Taking a cross country road trip may sound a bit boring, but you'll be amazed to realize what a startling personal revelation can take place. When it's just you, your traveling companions, and the road for days on end, something magical happens. Something that only those that have undergone this experience can explain. Something that you must do at least once.

As you drive across the North American continent, you will get a unique understanding of just how vast this country is. You can't get this anywhere else. Not from books, movies or TV. You will see the high mountains, the wide, flat plains that take several days to traverse, as well as the glorious lakes and rivers that this country has to offer.

One more fantastic reason in and of itself to take a cross country road trip is that you will establish a much deeper relationship with whoever your travel companions are. When you finish, your relationship with them will forever be changed in such a way that it would be impossible to achieve by any other means. You will develop a deep, life long bond that transcends normal, everyday life.

Amazing things take place as you spend so many days with the same person, facing the open road for hours on end. Of course, it rarely starts out all fun and games, and you very well may get one each others nerves, but after you break through the surface, you'll find some gold underneath. You'll begin to express yourself to each other the way you truly are.

It goes without saying that you'll need to put in some planning ahead of time. If you start off without any solid plans, you could find yourself out of gas in the middle of nowhere. This is neither fun nor enlightening. It would be best to decide which cities you'll be stopping in, or at the very least, which areas you'll be stopping in. That way you won't have to worry about the little things that can destroy an otherwise great trip.

Another thing you'll need to keep in mind is that it is very important to know exactly where you are going, and where all the proper turn-offs are. Having the very latest maps is absolutely essential. That way you won't find yourself driving two hundred miles out of your way because you made a wrong turn. A couple of options are to join Triple A, or simply buy an inexpensive GPS navigation system. - 42569
