The Functions Of An Undertaker In A Funeral Service

By Anton Alvarez

Undertakers are also known as funeral directors and next in line to the family of the dead and the clergy, they are the most significant persons to take care of the funeral service. These are people who help you arrange the funeral, right from the start to the end. Undertakers have to be ready for job at any time of the day and any day of the year without fail, as they have an emergency duty.

In the face of such a great loss, the bereaved family may not be able to take fast decisions regarding the service and final disposition of the body. This is where the undertaker enters the scene and takes over. His duties include deciding the specific time, place, and manner in which the funeral service will be conducted. Besides, the undertaker enables you to confront the loss that has befallen you, by staying at your side and managing every aspect of the funeral service, which enables you to display the deep regard and love you have in your heart for the deceased.

Planning a funeral service begins with deciding upon its time, venue and date and then informing the same to family and friends. Once this has been finalised, the undertaker makes preparations for shifting the body to the funeral home or where it is to be laid to rest. In case of a burial service, the appropriate coffin in which the body is to be rested is mostly picked by the undertaker.

Moreover, the undertaker also helps in organising the funeral service, including selecting florists, flowers, church, making arrangements for transport, food, clergy, music, copies of script of hymns, headstone and ashes. All arrangements are made by the undertaker keeping in mind the wishes of the relatives so that the deceased gets full respect in the funeral service.

Lastly, some undertakers also help in appropriate embalming and shipment of the body if needed, and in preparation and arranging for the funeral service in another country if the person has died abroad. - 42569
